Opera Australia

The Gondoliers

Prepare yourself for a treat because Opera Australia’s celebrated production of The Gondoliers is back, styled with fun and laced with satire.

An all-singing, all-dancing cast of stars make up this evening of irresistible tunes and high-energy action. Reg Livermore and Judi Connelli brought the house down with their wicked double act as the Duke and Duchess of Plaza-Toro in Melbourne in 2006. With the Grand Inquisitor, Don Alhambra del Bolero, aka John Bolton Wood in tow, this comic trio are bound for Sydney.

The Duke and Duchess seek the heir to the throne of Barataria, inconveniently mislaid at birth. The most likely candidates are two gondoliers, far more interested in parties than politics. But will Marco or Giuseppe give up their idyllic life to accept the crown? And will their wives put up with this nonsense?
