The History Boys

Since its London opening in 2004, The History Boys has brought audiences to their feet the world over and been lavished with awards. Now Melbourne Theatre Company presents its own production of Alan Bennett’s smash hit comedy.

Eight bright lads are in their last year of school and their future hangs on a few exams. Irwin, their new history teacher, has a foolproof yet cynical strategy to get them into a good university – which is fine with the Headmaster, who only wants results. But he’ll have a hard time convincing Hector, their English teacher, who thinks there is more to life than good grades. Perhaps Alan Bennett’s finest, funniest and most touching play, The History Boys is about young minds, how they’re formed, how they’re corrupted.
